Un triplé en or pour Sergei Ustiugov

Le meilleur fondeur junior du monde se nomme cette année Sergei Ustiugov. Après le sprint et le 10km classique, l'imbattable Russe s'est offert le titre mondial du skiathlon devant son compatriote Maltsev et le Norvégien Skar. Bonne performance pour Backscheider et Dheyriat.

Préparer des championnats du monde juniors, ce n'est pas un mince objectif pour les équipes de Russie. Il suffit de lire ci-dessous les propos du triple champion du monde Ustiugov pour s'en convaincre.

Une année entière tournée vers cet objectif et surtout 17 jours de stage en Bulgarie à 2000m, la même altitude que les pistes de fond à Erzurum, pour préparer le plus professionnellement possible cette échéance. L'acclimatation à l'altitude est un paramètre important pour ces mondiaux.

Aujourd'hui lors de ce skiathlon, 10+10km, Ustiugov gagne sa 3e médaille d'or alors que la Russie empoche sa 7e récompense suprême depuis les début de ces mondiaux juniors et U23.

Evgeny Usitugov et Artem Maltsev se sont fait la belle après 2.5km en classique et jamais ils ne seront revus par leurs adversaires. Au final, 10.7sec les séparent. Maltsev avait déjà pris la 5e place du 10km classique.

Le Norvégien Sindre Bjoernestad Skar remporte le bronze à 24.6sec. Double médaillé d'or l'an passé à Otepaa, Skar remporte ici sa troisième médaille après l'argent du sprint et déjà le bronze du 10km classique. En voilà encore un qui se prépare une très belle carrière.

Dmitry Rostovtsev, autre Russe termine 4e devant le Finlandais Ojansivu et le 4e Russe Vokuev !

Belle performance pour les Français Adrien Backscheider 14e à 1min47 et Mathias Dheyriat 15e à 1min54. Gérard Agnellet se classe 35e et Clément Parisse 56e.

"The race was perfect for me. I was in front from the start and I felt very strong. I realized it would be my day, my victory. Out of three gold medals the sprint one was the most difficult to win. Russian skiers are very strong and I hope we will have a good performance also on Sunday in the relay. I was preparing the whole year for the World Championships in Erzurum. Before the championships we were training 17 days in 2.000 m in Bulgaria. I have been working a lot on my mental strength. My coaches helped me to ged rid of mistakes I had been doing before. "

"It was a difficult competition today with many contacts between the skiers. I am happy I survived without a collision. I believed in myself I would be able to give my best. I am very happy I claimed the silver medal. Sergey (Ustiugov) was pushing hard and I was following him. I felt better after ski exchange. Sindre Bjoernestad Skar was following me closely. He was only three seconds behind. I am glad I won the silver medal. "

"Of course I am satisfied with the bronze medal. It was the tough race. Russians were so strong, they were going hard all the way. I tried to keep up with them but in the 7th lap Sergey and Artem were going so fast, I was just standing with my eyes open. I did not have a chance. I am not used to competing in such a high altitude. If we were lower I would have gone much harder. But here I had to be careful. I knew if I get tired it's over for me. I felt much butter today than during 10 km classic. My skis were perfect. I hope we will fight for gold in the relay on Sunday. Russians are big favorites but if we Norwegians. all of us have a great day we can be there as well. I will try to deliver my best and fight for victory. "
