The Georgetown to Idaho Springs Half Marathon — known to regulars simply as the GTIS Half — celebrates its 48th year on Saturday 8 August 2026, with a race start of 7:00 AM. Widely regarded as one of the most pleasurable races in the western US, the point-to-point 13.1-mile course winds down the scenic Clear Creek Valley, starting at an elevation of 8,500 feet near Georgetown Lake and finishing at 7,500 feet in the historic mining town of Idaho Springs, on Miner Street near 16th Avenue — a course tweaked in recent years due to development in both towns, now ending with a short but notable uphill push before the line. About 25% of the course runs on gravel or dirt, the rest on pavement and cement, largely exposed to the sun; the course is not currently USATF certified. Runners are bussed from the Clear Creek Recreation Center in Idaho Springs up to the start in Georgetown, with the first of five shuttles departing at 5:45 AM. Hosted by the Clear Creek Booster Club and run by parent volunteers, all proceeds support middle and high school students in Clear Creek County — even the race T-shirt is designed by a local student each year. The event is part of the Colorado Mountain Half+ Series, alongside the Estes Park Half, Mt Sneffels Half, NedNed Half and the Lead King Loop 25K. Registration includes a finisher medal, professional timing, and a post-race celebration in Idaho Springs with custom-made awards. Results: FitMap.
