The Great Ocean Road Running Festival returns on 16–17 May 2026 for a spectacular two-day celebration of running along one of the world's most iconic coastal highways. With the Great Ocean Road fully closed to traffic, over 11,000 runners experience the raw beauty of Victoria's south-west coast — the Southern Ocean crashing against limestone cliffs, Otway Ranges bush alive with birdcall, and the genuine possibility of spotting a koala in a gum tree or a kangaroo on a golf course along the way. The Ultra (60K), Marathon (44K) and Half Marathon (23K) are all sold out.
The festival hub spans the charming coastal towns of Lorne and Apollo Bay, roughly 2.5 hours south-west of Melbourne. Beyond the racing: glamping, beach yoga, kite festival, live music and a genuine south-coast community atmosphere that makes it as much a weekend away as a race. Your race bib grants free access to all festival activities. Timing by Tomato Timing / Racetec Results.
"As you run along this course with no traffic at all, you can almost hear the waves calling your name. The only sound is the soft thud of footsteps from your fellow competitors — and the occasional rustle of a koala snoozing high up in a gum tree."
