C'était la journée des favoris ce jeudi à Otepaa !

Après les sacres attendus des fondeurs Lahteenmaki et Belov, c'est l'Allemand Johannes Rydzek qui remporte facilement le premier titre mondial junior 2011 de combiné nordique (une autre épreuve sera organisée ce week-end).

Rydzek, second de la manche de saut, s'est élancé sur le 10km avec 28sec de retard sur l'Estonien Kaarel Nurmsalu. L'allemand a très vite comblé son retard avant de déposer Nurmsalu sur la piste. L'Estonien terminera à la troisième place finale et offrira une belle médaille de bronze à son public.

On retrouve intercalée le Slovène Marjan Jelenko qui glane la médaille d'argent avec un retard de 48sec sur Johannes Rydzek.

Les Norvégiens Wendel et Graabak sont placés aux 4e et 5e places mais ils avaient trop de retard en saut pour espérer un podium.

Romain Jacquier, du Mont Noir, se classe 17e à 2min57 juste derrière le meilleur Hélvète Ivo Hess. Gautier Airiau termine 25e, Theo Hannon 33e et Hugo Buffard 47e.

JOHANNES RYDZEK
“When I competed last year (in Hinterzarten, Germany) I was really nervous, because everybody was looking at my performance and so I couldn’t handle the pressure. This year I was better prepared, especially mentally. I showed my best performance today. I tried to make my race to get Kaarel and then see how strongly I can go. It worked very well for me.”

MARJAN JELENKO
“My tactic was to be with Johannes as long as I could. I was really satisfied with my performance. I think when I do my best jump at the next race I can get the podium again.”

KAAREL NURMSALU
“I am very happy, my job is done now. I got the medal. I know that Johannes is very good skier and he started with Marjan so I expect that they would catch me and if it’s possible I go with them. But it wasn’t possible. All the time I got information about who is following me and I expected medal. And I got it. Of course I got nervous when Christian got closer and closer, but after third lap I was 90% sure that I would get the medal.”
