Racing in paradise on One Happy Island

The 8th KLM Aruba Marathon takes place over the weekend of June 6–7, 2026 on the sun-drenched Caribbean island of Aruba. Sponsored by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and organized by Aruba International Marathon, the event is AIMS/World Athletics certified, a Boston Marathon qualifier, and a qualifying race for the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships. With up to 3,000 participants, the race offers four distances over two days — all starting and finishing on the iconic beach of the Hilton Aruba at Eagle Beach. The flat, coastal out-and-back course winds past palm trees, Aruba's signature wind-sculpted Divi Divi trees, the crystal-clear Caribbean sea, and landmark stops at Eagle Beach and the California Lighthouse.

4Races — 5K to 42.2km

BQBoston Qualifier — AIMS/WA
3,000Max participants — 8th edition
🌙
The marathon starts at 3:00am — in the dark. The full marathon follows a two-loop course. The first loop begins under the stars in the quiet Aruban night, with runners heading out along the coastline in darkness. By the time the second loop begins, daylight is breaking over the Caribbean horizon. The half marathon joins at 5:15am and the 10K joins at 6:15am — so all distances converge on the course and cross the finish line on Eagle Beach together at approximately the same time, in full daylight. A shared finish line, a shared celebration.
⏱️
Course records and record-breaking bonus. The current marathon record is 2:37:13, set by Yeisson Javier Parra Rodriguez (Colombia). The half marathon record stands at 1:15:00, set by John Poray (USA). Any male or female runner who breaks the marathon record AND wins the overall title receives a USD $2,500 prize. Top 3 overall finishers in each distance (male and female) receive a Special Cup Award on stage.

The course — Eagle Beach to California Lighthouse

The marathon and half marathon follow a flat, mostly paved out-and-back coastal route starting from the Hilton Aruba at Eagle Beach. Runners head north through the High Rise Area and continue to the iconic California Lighthouse at the northern tip of the island — a landmark that appears twice on the marathon course (km 8 and km 29.1). The 10K and 5K are also out-and-back routes along the waterfront. The 5K takes place Saturday evening at 5:30pm, while all other races start Sunday morning before dawn. At the finish, a beach celebration party awaits every finisher, along with a special shiny gold medal — one of the race's signature features.

"Run the unique and amazing course which takes you along weaving palm trees, the characteristic Divi Divi trees, alongside the crystal clear ocean and past iconic landmarks like Eagle Beach and the California Lighthouse — and experience the warmth and enthusiasm of the Aruban running community along the course! One Happy Runcation awaits on One Happy Island!" — arubainternationalmarathon.com
