Yaquina Bay — Oregon's Most Scenic Marathon Course

The 2026 Newport Marathon & Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 6:00 AM in Newport, Oregon, at the heart of the state's stunning central coast. Presented by Oregon Coast Bank and produced by the Newport Booster Club, this USATF-certified, Boston-qualifying event is a nonprofit race — all proceeds fund school athletics in Newport. Both the Marathon and Half Marathon are sold out for 2026. The race starts at the historic, reportedly "haunted" Yaquina Bay Lighthouse in Yaquina Bay State Park and traverses one of the flattest, fastest, and most scenically rewarding courses on the West Coast.

Course — Lighthouse, Bridge, Bayfront & Estuary

Runners start at the historic Yaquina Bay Lighthouse and head north along the ocean through Newport's picturesque residential neighborhoods. The route loops back and descends under the landmark Yaquina Bay Bridge to the bayfront — past shops, restaurants, galleries, and a large fishing village — before following the Yaquina Bay and River estuary out to mile 15, then retracing the same route home. A short hill of about 40 feet at mile 4 reappears at mile 26, then it's downhill to the finish. Along the way: wildlife, shipping traffic, fishermen, crabbers — and oyster shooters at miles 11 and 19, one of the most talked-about aid station traditions in Pacific Northwest running.

"It is a flat, very fast, and beautiful course that will produce numerous PRs. Our course is USATF certified and has proven to be a very good first marathon as well as an excellent qualifier for the Boston Marathon. Along the course runners will be treated to a splendid variety of views and scenery, wildlife and shipping, fishermen and crabbers." — newportmarathon.org
