Ogden Canyon, Utah — "Utah's Spring Run-Off" through the Wasatch Range

The America First Ogden Marathon returns on Saturday, May 16, 2026 for another edition of what Runner's World calls one of the Top Ten Marathons in the World and Shape.com ranks as the fifth-best marathon for first-timers in the country. Held annually on the third weekend of May, "Utah's Spring Run-Off" is known above all for one thing: a breathtaking, net downhill course that drops roughly 1,600 feet from the Wasatch Range to downtown Ogden — making it one of the fastest Boston Qualifier courses in the Mountain West.

The marathon course begins at the gun-fired start at 5,900 feet in the South Fork of the Ogden River drainage, deep in the Wasatch Mountains. It winds through the communities of Eden and Huntsville, circles the stunning Pineview Reservoir, and descends through the sheer red-rock walls of Ogden Canyon — passing a dramatic waterfall at the canyon's mouth — before joining the Ogden River Parkway and crossing the finish line at Ogden Municipal Gardens, steps from the restaurants, brewpubs and galleries of Historic 25th Street. Personal vehicles are not permitted at the start: all runners use official shuttles departing from downtown Ogden in the pre-dawn hours.

The Course — Ogden Canyon to Historic 25th Street : The descent is gradual and consistent — not quad-wrecking steep — which is precisely why elite and amateur runners alike set personal bests here. From the Wasatch Mountains through Pineview Reservoir and the communities of Huntsville and Eden, down Ogden Canyon with its 200-foot cliffs and rushing river, onto the Ogden River Parkway, and into the finish-line festival at Municipal Gardens. May temps in the 40s–60s°F on course, crisp mountain air at the start.
🎉
Autoliv Finish Line Festival — Free & Open to All, 7am–2pm : The finish-line celebration at Ogden Municipal Gardens is open to the entire community — no bib required. Food, drinks, live music, recovery support, mylar blankets, and the buzz of thousands of finishers streaming in. Historic 25th Street is immediately accessible on foot: brewpubs, coffee shops, restaurants, and galleries, all within walking distance of the finish arc.
