The BREMBO Ostrava City Marathon takes place on Sunday, September 6, 2026, marking its 67th edition in the heart of the Moravian-Silesian Region. First run in 1954 (with a break between 1966 and 1973 before its 1974 relaunch), it holds the distinction of being the oldest marathon in the Czech Republic. Organized by Maratón klub Seitl Ostrava, the event has grown into a full summer running festival that combines sport with music and culture at Masaryk Square, the historic square that serves as both start and finish for every distance.

The marathon (42.195 km) starts at 9:00 AM, alongside a half marathon (21.1 km), a fast 10K, a 6x6km relay open to men's, women's, and mixed teams, and a non-competitive children's mini-marathon with its own dedicated start gate. The course winds through Ostrava's historic, industrial, and green sides — from Masaryk Square through the shaded avenues of Comenius Park (Komenského sady) and along the green banks of the Ostravice River — giving runners a genuine feel for a city where industrial heritage and modern renewal sit side by side. Refreshment stations are spaced roughly every 5 km along the route, offering water, isotonic drinks, and food.

Capacity for the main competitive races is already sold out for 2026; only the non-competitive children's mini-marathon remains open for on-site registration. Bib pickup and registration for entered runners take place on Saturday, September 5, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, and again on race morning, Sunday, from 6:30 to 8:00 AM, at the Ostrava University City Campus. Men over 70 and women over 60 can request free entry to the marathon via a registration code from the organizers. After the finish, runners can head to Dolní Vítkovice, the city's former steelworks complex, for a walk up to the viewing terrace atop the Bolt Tower blast furnace.
