The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon enters its final year of candidacy in 2026 as Africa's first Abbott World Marathon Majors candidate — every runner who completes the 2026 event earns a temporary Abbott star, which becomes an official Major star if the race is confirmed. The 2026 edition also hosts the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships for masters runners. Set against the extraordinary backdrop of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, the flat, fast 42.2km road course through Cape Town's most iconic neighbourhoods — Green Point, Sea Point, the V&A Waterfront area, Woodstock — is designed for personal bests and elite performances alike. Race day is Sunday 24 May, with the marathon starting at 6:00 AM. The 2026 edition introduces two start options: the Stadium start (Fritz Sonnenberg Road) and the Beach Road start (Mouille Point). All events finish at Vlei Road, Green Point.

Cape Town →Getting to Cape Town: International travellers arrive at Cape Town International Airport (CPT), approximately 20 km (12 miles) from the Green Point start area — approximately 30 minutes by taxi or Uber. UK, EU and US residents require a valid passport; depending on your stay length, a visa may be required — always check the latest South African government travel guidance. Race entry is via ballot or through an authorised tour operator or charity partner. All runners must collect race packs in person at the DHL Stadium Expo — no third-party collection permitted.
