The 48th Spring Lake Five Mile Run takes place on Saturday 23 May 2026 in Spring Lake, New Jersey, on Memorial Day weekend. Organized by the Friends of the Spring Lake Five, Inc. — a non-profit — under Race Director Ed Hale, the Spring Lake Five has grown from 500 runners in 1977 into New Jersey's largest road race, drawing over 12,000 participants and thousands of spectators. Recognized by Runner's World Magazine as one of the Top 100 Races in America, it remains deliberately non-commercial: no corporate logos on the T-shirts, no paid entry gates, one shared finish line for every ability level. The USATF-certified 5-mile course is flat, fast, and entirely paved — looping through Spring Lake's Victorian-lined streets, passing the namesake spring-fed lake, and running down the full length of the famous Jersey Shore boardwalk along the Atlantic. Kids' Races are held on the Friday 22 May. The 2026 registration sold out in record time on Super Bowl Sunday.

USATF-certified · Flat, fast, entirely paved · Loop through Spring Lake's Victorian-lined streets → past the lake → Jersey Shore boardwalk (full length along Atlantic Ocean) → town center · Start and finish in the beachfront area · Water stops on course at Jersey Ave & Ocean Ave · Top men and women have separate finishing chutes (women left, men right) · Digital clock at finish. Multiple age group races · Registration in person at Spring Lake Train Station race week (cash, Venmo or check) · Course: short loops around Spring Lake town · No online registration (closed May 13).
Rules: No headphones · No baby strollers · No in-line skates · No pets · Unregistered runners disqualified · Bibs required for post-race refreshments and T-shirt pickup.
