Live Tracking & Results → 🌐 Official Website →The Big Half takes place on Sunday, September 6, 2026, with a 9:00 AM start on the Highway near the north side of Tower Bridge. Organised by London Marathon Events, the race was first held in 2018 — originally in early March, a few weeks ahead of the London Marathon, before moving to late August/early September following the COVID-19 pandemic. It has since grown into one of London's most inclusive and community-focused running festivals, bringing together runners of all backgrounds and abilities in a celebration of the capital's diversity.
The point-to-point, closed-road course covers 13.1 miles (21.1 km) and is mostly flat, with around 218 feet of climbing. From the start near Tower Bridge, the route heads east through Canary Wharf, Wapping, Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, and Deptford, crossing four distinct London boroughs — Tower Hamlets, Southwark, Lewisham, and Greenwich — before finishing beside the iconic Cutty Sark tea clipper in Greenwich. Course records stand at 1:00:22 for men (Kenenisa Bekele, 2020) and 1:07:35 for women (Eilish McColgan, 2022).
Beyond the standard half marathon entry, runners can take on The Big Relay, splitting the course between teams of four, or join the free, non-competitive Big Mile open to everyone. A four-hour cutoff applies, with pacers spread across a wide range of finish times to support runners at every level. For a memorable finish, some participants can access an exclusive area aboard the Cutty Sark itself, with a private viewing deck, complimentary pasta salad and soft drinks, and kitbag storage. Entrants must be 17 years old on event day, and organisers recommend using public transport to reach the start area. General entry for 2026 has sold out; charity places, which typically require a minimum fundraising commitment, remain the main route to a place once standard entries close.
