Blue Mountains, NSW — The World's 2nd Largest UTMB Event

The HOKA Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB® returns for its 18th edition from 14 to 17 May 2026, transforming the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park into the stage for Australia's greatest trail running festival — and the first Major of the UTMB® World Series season. Over 8,000 runners from across Australia and the world descend on the idyllic mountain town of Katoomba (2 hours west of Sydney) for a multi-day festival spanning six race distances, from the ultimate 161.5K UTAMiler to the 11.5K UTA11.

The course showcases everything that makes the Blue Mountains extraordinary: vast sandstone cliff tops, dense eucalyptus forest, cascading waterfalls, the legendary Furber Steps (951 steps that stand between you and the finish line), the Golden Stairs, Ironpot Ridge, Grand Canyon, Narrow Neck Lookout and the pristine Blue Gum Forest. The event honours the Gundungurra ancestors with a Welcome to Country on the start line and the sound of the yidaki on Ironpot Ridge.

"Sandstone, sweat, stairs, forest, ambition — and the sort of terrain that makes your calves begin legal proceedings before halfway. The Blue Mountains are not merely hosting a race. They are staging a global trail-running production, with the landscape doing half the drama and the runners supplying the rest."

🗺️
All distances — Start/Finish: Scenic World, Katoomba : Except UTAMiler (start at Govetts Leap Carpark, Blackheath → finish Scenic World). Furber Steps — The most famous stairs in trail running : After 99 miles (or 50, 100K for shorter distances), 951 sandstone steps carved into the cliff face stand between you and the finish line at Scenic World, Katoomba. They are less a staircase and more a vertical disagreement with gravity. Every UTA finisher earns them. Indigenous cultural elements are woven throughout — Welcome to Country on the start line · yidaki (didgeridoo) on Ironpot Ridge. You're running on Gundungurra country.
