The 37th M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon & Relay takes place on Sunday 24 May 2026 in Burlington, Vermont. Vermont's largest single-day sporting event draws around 5,000 participants, 20,000 spectators and 800 volunteers to the shores of Lake Champlain for the cornerstone of Memorial Day Weekend in New England. The third largest marathon in New England and the second largest marathon relay in the nation, it has been produced by RunVermont since 1989. The USATF-certified two-loop course starts and finishes at Waterfront Park, covering Church Street Marketplace, more than ten miles along the Burlington Bike Path with uninterrupted views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains, and four of Burlington's parks. The course is mostly flat with gentle rolling sections — largest climb at miles 6.0–7.1 and 19.1–20.2 (~120 feet of gain). A certified Boston Marathon Qualifier, an Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings qualifying event, and the 2026 RRCA Eastern Region Marathon Championship. Relay events are presented by Darn Tough Vermont. Prize money is awarded in female, male, and non-binary open divisions. A Mini Marathon and inaugural Vermont City Two Mile for young runners (ages 4–14) take place the day before, Saturday 23 May.

Loop 1 & Loop 2 (identical): Waterfront Park → Church Street Marketplace (crowd support, live entertainment) → Burlington neighborhoods → Burlington Bike Path (10+ miles alongside Lake Champlain, views of Adirondack and Green Mountains) → four Burlington parks → biggest climb miles 6.0–7.1 / 19.1–20.2 (~120 ft gain) → return to Waterfront Park. Road surface throughout. Aid stations every ~2 miles. Relay exchange zones marked on course.
Finisher Festival: Waterfront Park — food, music, community celebration on the Lake Champlain waterfront. Community Spirit Award: M&T Bank's $500 donation to the neighbourhood that best cheers runners along the course. Expo: Sports & Fitness Expo, DoubleTree by Hilton, South Burlington (Fri 22 May 13:00–19:00 & Sat 23 May).
