The 2026 Wexford Festival of Running takes place on Saturday, 30 May 2026 at Johnstown Castle, Johnstown, Co. Wexford — one of Ireland's most striking estate settings. Presented by the Wexford Marathon Club, this sold-out event invites runners to complete lap after lap of a 1.3km officially measured loop through the spectacular grounds surrounding the 19th-century Gothic revival castle, enhanced by a beautiful lake and idyllic mature gardens. Four distances span the full day: from the 100km ultra beginning before sunrise at 7:00 AM, through the 50km and 25km, to the 10km closing race at 5:00 PM — all crossing the finish line by 7:00 PM.
The loop format is deceptively demanding. The 100km requires approximately 77 laps, the 50km around 38, the 25km about 19, and the 10km roughly 8 circuits. Each lap brings runners past the castle's fairy-tale towers, along the edge of the shimmering castle loch, through avenues of mature oaks and chestnuts, and back again. It is the kind of course where the setting does the encouraging — lap after lap, Johnstown Castle reveals a different light, a different mood, as the Irish day unfolds from dawn to dusk.
