De nombreux sauteurs ont effectué le long voyage au Japon afin de participer ce week-end aux deux concours prévus sur le tremplin H130 d'Hakuba.
Parmi eux on notait avec plaisir la présence des sauteurs Français qui sont venus au Japon consolider la place de Nicolas Mayer au classement mondial afin de se garantir un quota supplémentaire en coupe du monde l'hiver prochain.
La mission des Tricolores a parfaitement débuté aujourd'hui avec Mayer qui prend une belle 12e place, tout près d'une nouvelle place dans le top10. A signaler encore le 28e rang de Mabboux qui progresse dans la hiérarchie et la 31e place de Descombes-Sevoie qui manque d'un rien sa qualif pour la manche finale.
Pour la gagne c'est encore le terrible Allemand Andreas Wank qui s'impose avec deux superbes sauts à 130.50m et 126m pour un total de 259.8 points. Simon Ammann, quadruple champion olympique, n'est pas loin de sa meilleure forme en prenant la deuxième place.
L'exploit du jour on aurait presque l'envie de le donner au vétéran Noriaki Kasai. Avec ses 40 ans il s'en vient une nouvelle fois grimper sur le podium devant une bande de gamins aux dents longues !

Andreas Wank (GER): “It was a good competition for me. The first jump was very good. I'm happy that I could defend the yellow bib and I hope that I can also do so tomorrow. I would like to win the overall title of the Grand Prix, but I would not be disappointed if I can't. The facility and the spectators here are great. I really enjoy coming to Japan. The new suits were a big change. It's warmer, it sticks to your body and putting it on and taking it off is more difficult. I needed about 50 - 100 jumps to get used to it."
Simon Ammann (SUI): “It was a good competition and I'm satisfied. It's not easy to jump on a high level consistently and if you are able to do just that it gives you self-confidence. Last week I had some health problems and so it's nice to be on the podium today. The atmosphere today was perfect and the competitions in Hakuba are always very well organized. It's fun to jump here."
Noriaki Kasai (JPN): “In my first jump I was again late at the take-off. In the second jump the timing was good and I could keep up with Andreas. Today I had a perfect jump in the trial round and that also gives me self-confidence for tomorrow. I had the good feeling of the 2009 season in the final round and was convinced that it would work well. Physically I'm in a good shape and a podium result at age 40 gives me the confidence that I can get better."
