Two live views maintained by the resorts themselves

Lomani Island Resort & Spa and Plantation Island Resort, both members of the Raffe Hotels & Resorts Group, run their own live cameras from Malolo Lailai Island in the Mamanuca group.

Fiji — 330 islands, and the ones this camera actually shows

Fiji counts around 330 islands scattered across the South Pacific, of which barely a third are permanently inhabited. Malolo Lailai, home to both resorts on this page, sits in the Mamanuca group — a cluster of volcanic islands and coral cays roughly 20km off Nadi that has become Fiji's most accessible slice of postcard water, close enough to the international airport to reach by boat transfer within the hour.

The Mamanucas owe part of their fame to cinema: the uninhabited island of Monuriki, visible from boats leaving this stretch of coast, was the filming location for "Cast Away" (2000), and the group has stood in for tropical paradise in commercials and productions for decades. Long before any of that, the islands were settled by Lapita seafarers roughly 3,500 years ago, part of the same Pacific migration wave that populated much of Melanesia and Polynesia — Fiji became a British colony in 1874 and gained independence in 1970.

Bula, and the kava bowl

"Bula" is Fiji's all-purpose greeting — hello, welcome and good health rolled into one word, shouted rather than said. It's usually paired with a kava ceremony: a mildly sedative drink made from ground yaqona root, mixed with water in a communal wooden bowl called a tanoa and shared clockwise around a circle, a ritual of welcome still practised across resorts and villages alike.

Fiji beyond the webcams

Monuriki Island: the uninhabited "Cast Away" island, visible on day-trip boat tours from the Mamanuca resorts.

Cloud 9: a floating pontoon bar and pizzeria anchored in open water between the Mamanuca islands, reachable only by boat.

South Sea Island & Beachcomber Island: smaller day-trip islands nearby, popular for snorkelling over shallow reef.

Two resorts, one small island, and a lagoon that's been photographed for tourism brochures and Hollywood alike — the Mamanucas have made a living for decades out of looking exactly like what people picture when they say the word "paradise," and on camera, most days, they still do.

When to watch

Dry season (May–October): lower humidity, calmer seas and the most reliable turquoise-water conditions on camera.

Wet season (November–April): warmer, more humid, with the occasional tropical cyclone passing through the region.

Getting there: Malolo Lailai Island is reached by boat transfer from Denarau Marina, near Nadi International Airport, on Fiji's main island of Viti Levu.
