The course showcases some of the most beautiful terrain on Long Island's East End: wooded lanes, Meadow Lane heading west toward the Shinnecock Inlet, Coopers Beach and sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and Shinnecock Bay. The route is flat and fast.
Wheelchair and handcycle athletes set off a few minutes before the runners in both the marathon and the 5K. Runner's World described the race as a “Bucket List Must Do”.
Many participants also run for Team Make-A-Wish, pledging their miles to grant wishes for children with critical illnesses.
