Une victoire attendue
Johannes Rydzek faisait figure de favori tout à l'heure au départ du 10km disputé à Kuusamo sous la lumière des projecteurs. Un 10km rythmé par le classement du saut provisoire, là faute à un vent trop fort.
Neuvième à 0.49sec de l'Autrichien Bieler, l'Allemand Rydzek a très vite gommé son retard et rattrapé les skieurs partis devant lui. Au bout de quelques kilomètres d'effort, un petit groupe avec le Haut-Savoyard François Braud se forme derrière Bieler.
Le vétéran Autrichien connaitra ensuite une sévère défaillance.
Johannes Rydzek, second du général en 2014, va ensuite prendre les choses en main et faire le gros du travail. L'Allemand se relève toutefois à 2.5km de l'arrivée. Le moment choisi par le Tchèque Dvorak pour attaquer.
Le groupe de tête explose et François Braud en fait les frais. Rydzek, Gruber et Watabe s'accrochent avant de revenir sur le Tchèque. En costaud l'Allemand en remet une couche et s'envole seul vers la ligne d'arrivée.
Bernhard Gurber s'accroche mais ne pourra rien contre le finish de son rival. Johannes Rydzek remporte un succès mérité et s'annonce comme un sacré candidat au globe de cristal.
Gruber se contente volontiers de sa belle deuxième place et le Tchèque Miroslav Dvorak, passé tout près d'un premiere victoire, se classe au 3eme rang.
Le régulier Akito Watabe sauvant sa 4eme place devant le superbe retour du champion olympique Norvégien Joergen Graabak, seulement 23eme après le saut.
François Braud a tout donné sur la piste avant de terminer à la 10eme place. Un résultat encourageant pour la suite...
En revanche le bilan est moins bon pour ses coéquipiers qui n'ont pas pu renverser la tendance sur la piste. Déjà relégués assez loin après le saut, ils n'ont jamais pesé sur le scénario de la course.

Johannes Rydzek (GER), in German: „I had a perfect day today! I had a good jump in the Provisional Round, so I was not sad that the competition round was cancelled today. Sure, we would have liked to jump but this way, I had a good starting position for the race and just trusted in my strength on the track.
The first one and a half laps went really well and I noticed I have to take it a bit slower. On this hard track, you can’t go too fast. But in the last lap, I was able to go faster again. I had to go to my limit and give everything I had but it was enough and so I am beyond happy now!"
Bernhard Gruber (AUT), in German: „It was a great day for me today. I am beyond happy to do that well at the World Cup Opening. Our whole team has worked very hard and we also had good results today, teamwise. We have a great team spirit and I hope we’re able to take that into the Team Sprint tomorrow.
Hopefully we’ll be able to score again! We feel very comfortable here in Ruka and we will keep calm, go on working with discipline and this is how it works."
Miroslav Dvorak (CZE): „I think this was my best start into a season today here in Kuusamo. I had a good shape on the hill and on the track, I felt really good. I tried to win and increased the pace quite much about 2 kilometres before the finish line but the last uphill was too much for me.
But I am very happy about the podium and the third place. That was the maximum of what I could achieve today."
