Morgenstern, déjà vainqueur la veille sur le tremplin d'Engelberg, s'est imposé avec des sauts à 135 et 135,5 m pour un total de 291 points.
Il a devancé le Polonais Adam Malysz (288,8 pts) et le Finlandais Matti Hautamaeki (284,8 pts), tandis que le Suisse Simon Ammann, lauréat de la Coupe du monde 2009-10 et double champion olympique à Vancouver, s'est contenté, devant son public, de la 9e place (268,6 pts).
Côté français, Emmanuel Chedal n'a pas obtenu sa qualification pour ce concours, tandis que Vincent Descombes-Sevoie a été éliminé après la 1re manche et s'est classé 46e.
Morgenstern, double champion olympique 2006 et médaillé d'or dans l'épreuve par équipes des JO-2010, a consolidé avec ce 18e succès en Coupe du monde sa première place au classement général de la Coupe du monde.
Il totalise 525 points, soit 145 de plus que son compatriote Andreas Kofler, 4e samedi. Ammann est 5e avec 289 points.
L'étape d'Engelberg se termine dimanche avec un troisième concours individuel, dernière compétition avant le premier grand rendez-vous de l'hiver, la tournée des Quatre tremplins fin décembre.

Thomas Morgenstern (AUT): “That was a very exciting competition for me today. Right before my jump the zipper broke. Fortunately I was able to solve this problem with my suit quickly and could still show a very good second jump. Now I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s competition and I hope that I can show a good performance again. It’s not more pressure to be the top favorite for the 4-Hills-Tournament after these results.”
Adam Malysz (POL): “I’m very happy about the second play. Finally my jumps were good enough to be on the podium and compete with the best. Both jumps were a bit late. Of course I was nervous before the final jump when Morgi’s zipper was broken. I told him that I would jump first because there’s no point in wasting time. Maybe thanks to that he could win. I have to jump even better to beat him.”
Matti Hautamaeki (FIN): “I had two really good jumps today. It was not perfect, but I’m very satisfied. If I can do well again tomorrow I have a realistic chance to be on the podium again. The Top 5 jumpers are extremely tight at the moment.”
