“The plan was to go full, to go flat out,” “I especially learned the best way to take the corners, how to approach the corners because sometimes in six and a half minutes.
It’s more important to do a corner in the right way than anything else. I did the loop many times and I learned the corners really well.”

“Today was super nervous, a lot of guys, unfortunately, went down. I crashed pretty bad like it was big impact, but I could recover. The team did a really good job.
We were always in the front in the last lap. At Schwalbe Classic, I waited too long, so I just went with 300 meters to go. It was really close to Caleb Ewan, but yeah, I am super happy.”

" I couldn’t be happier with how the guys raced for me. I nevertheless had to fight for this win. I picked up the pace on the final ascent to catch up to Yates and Vine, who had already fled. I didn't expect a breakaway attempt on that climb would go to the line, so I'm glad I was a part of that.
For Australians this is a unique race. I was able to enter the professional peloton thanks to this race. I consequently have a lot to give back in some way to this race. It feels good to start in the leader's jersey tomorrow. I'm hoping I can defend it, but let's see what happens",

“Yesterday we were a bit disappointed because the race did not go as we expected, losing some seconds in the finish line. Today this was the best for me, short and explosive kicks with the fast descent until the finish line. I had some difficulty joining Yates and Vine. I had to do my best and join them in the last 300 meters [of the climb].”
“I knew I was going to have a good possibility, as they were also looking for the overall, and I was more focusing on making my best sprint and trying to win today. I really enjoy working with Neil Stephens.
He really looks into details. It is a pleasure to do his home race and also to give this victory to him. He is going to be very proud of the guys who just did a perfect job for me.”

« Je suis super content parce que c’est ma 1ère victoire en UCI World Tour. Il s’agit de ma 11e saison chez les professionnels, j’ai eu la chance de beaucoup gagner mais jamais en UCI World Tour. Et ce compteur-là, on avait à cœur de le débloquer avec l’équipe cette saison.
Ce n’est pas un soulagement parce que l’émotion est identique à l’arrivée mais il y a un petit plus ! Aujourd’hui, c’était une journée avec beaucoup de stress parce qu’on savait qu’il y aurait des bordures.
On en a eu une à une soixantaine de kilomètres de l’arrivée et on était dans le premier groupe avec Alexis Renard, qui s’est super bien occupé de moi tout au long de l’étape.
Nous étions vraiment focalisés sur l’arrivée en essayant de s’économiser pour faire un bon sprint. Il m’a remonté pile au bon moment et ça s’est bien goupillé. Après, je n’ai pas hésité, d’autant que c’est le type d’arrivée que je préfère ! »

“It feels pretty incredible to be standing here wearing this jersey. The way the team rode that race was first class, the guys were incredible and our DS Marco in the car was also always clear and giving us good instructions.
It was pretty hectic at the start of the stage, we really had to be on our toes but I had good guys around me, the team was incredible and they deserve it as much as I do.”
