L'Autrichien Thomas Morgenstern a gagné pour la deuxième fois de sa carrière le globe de cristal récompensant le vainqueur de la Coupe du monde de saut à skis avec sa 5e place dans le second concours de Vikersund (Norvège) remporté dimanche par son compatriote Gregor Schlierenzauer.

Après son tonitruant début de saison et sa victoire dans la tournée des Quatre tremplins 2011, Morgenstern faisait figure de grand favori pour remporter la Coupe du monde.

Mais depuis mi-janvier, le triple champion olympique a perdu de sa superbe et Simon Ammann, son premier poursuivant, a retrouvé son meilleur niveau.

"Morgi", déjà N.1 mondial en 2007-08, avait toutefois creusé suffisamment l'écart pour être sacré avant les trois derniers concours de la saison.

Il ne fait en revanche plus figure de favori incontournable pour les Championnats du monde d'Oslo dans une dizaine de jours où une demi-douzaine de sauteurs peuvent viser les titres individuels.

Tout comme Ammann, N.1 mondial sortant et double champion olympique 2010, Schlierenzauer, après un début d'hiver catastrophique, s'est relancé avec deux succès de rang sur le tremplin de Vikersund,

Dimanche, il a remporté son 34e succès en Coupe du monde avec des sauts à 227 et 237,5 m, devant la sensation norvégienne, Johan Remen Evensen qui a amélioré deux fois le record du monde --de 239 m à 243 m, puis 246,5 m-- vendredi et signé samedi sa première victoire --ex-aequo avec Schlierenzauer-- sur le circuit mondial.

Le N.1 français Emmanuel Chedal, 13e la veille, a dû se contenter cette fois de la 22e place et pointe désormais au 27e rang mondial.

Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT): “Vikersund is one of the best places in the world. I was also jumping here 2009 and it was good, but this year the hill is bigger and it was even better. I’m very happy about this perfect weekend. The season was not easy for me and I’m proud to be back in a great shape and with great flights, That’s very good for my self-confidence. I’m looking forward to the World Championships.”

 

Johan Remen Evensen (NOR): “It was a very busy weekend for me. It’s my biggest experience as a ski jumper so far and I try to enjoy every second of it.

 

Adam Malysz (POL): “I’m very happy about the third place today. I jumped on my personal best and I’m very satisfied with the competition. Gregor and Johan are very strong at the moment. It’s amazing that they could jump on 243 m and 246 m.

 

 

Statement of the overall World Cup winner 2010/11

 

Thomas Morgenstern (AUT): “It feels great to win the overall World Cup. I did a good job during the whole season and everything was fine. I also had a good competition today and I’m looking forward to the World Championships in Oslo. I now already achieved my main goal for the season, we’ll see how the rest of the winter goes. I’ll do my best in the rest of the season. I had a lot of fun this year, I enjoy every competition and I’m on the right track. All in all it has been a very emotional and fun year.”
