On Sunday 30 August 2026, Longford hosts the 26th running of the Abbott Longford Marathon, starting and finishing on Main Street near the Longford Arms Hotel.

The Abbott Longford Marathon takes place on Sunday 30 August 2026, marking its 26th edition. Known as "The Friendly Marathon in the Heart of Ireland", the race is organised by runners, for runners, on a flat course running through the three counties of Longford, Roscommon and Leitrim. All distances start and finish on Main Street in Longford, near the Longford Arms Hotel, which serves as Race HQ.

The Ultra Marathon (63.4 km) sets off first at 7:00am, followed at 9:00am by the 5K, Half Marathon, full Marathon and the Marathon Relay, run in teams of four covering the 26.2-mile distance over four stages (the first three roughly 7.5 miles each, the fourth around 4 miles).
