Un doublé Russe pour terminer, c'est logique et conforme à l'écrasante domination des fondeurs de l'Est durant tout ces championnats du monde juniors ou U23 comme aujourd'hui sur ce skiathlon long de 20km.
Raul Shakirzianov, déjà six fois médaillé dans des mondiaux juniors et U23, a remporté aujourd'hui sa septième récompense mais seulement sa première médaille d'or individuelle.
Le Russe a tenté de faussé compagnie à ses adversaires dans la dernière boucle mais le groupe de chasse est assez vite revenue sur lui. Ce skiathlon, course très tactique ce matin en Turquie, s'est donc joué au sprint avec un groupe de huit qui est arrivé ensemble dans le stade.
Shakirzianov, qui a eu le mérite d'attaquer, avait conservé les forces nécessaires pour mener à bien son sprint et décrocher l'or mondial devant son coéquipier Evgeny Belov, lui aussi très gâté par les médailles !
Le bronze sera encore pour l'Allemand Dotzler qui réédite son exploit enregistré lors du 15km classique jeudi. Ses exploits lui permettent de rejoindre l'équipe nationale Allemande pour les prochaines étapes de coupe du monde à Lahti et à Oslo.
Tscharnke, Krogh, Sedov, Bing et Hoffman ont perdu leurs chances de podium durant le sprint alors que le fondeur du Queyras Paul Goalabré est venu prendre une très belle douzième place à 27sec. Il se classe même second de tous les fondeurs nés en 1991 !
Alexis Jeannerod termine 21e et Damien Tarantola 24e, deux fondeurs également nés en 1991.

"I was hoping for a podium and even to win this race. This is my sixth Junior/U23 World Championships and my last chance for gold medal. It was the most important race of the championships for me. Me and my teammates were planning to break away in the classical part of the competition but we did not make it. Then it was clear the race would be very tactical until the finish line. I wanted to be strong all the way to the finish and do my best in the last 100 m."

"The early phase of the race was not good for me. I was involved in a crash but I did not become nervous. The crash gave me extra energy and kicked me to the further fight. I was back with the leading group by the first lap was over. When I was back with the group I was following the tactics we had prepared the evening before the competition. As we did not break away in the third classical lap, we decided to let the decision until the finish line. I am leaving Erzurum very happy. I did not expect to win three medals here."
Hannes Dotzler (GER)
"It was a tactical race from the start. The speed was not very high. I tried to have bigger gap on the guys before me in the downhill to avoid any crashes. There were a few attacks during the two last skating laps. Noah Hoffman (USA) tried to attack. Last lap was the fastest but there were still many skiers who came together to the finish. I knew I could be fast in the last meters. Belov closed me little bit in the finishing straight as we were skiing in the same corridor and I could not pass him. "
