The Kauai Marathon & Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Poipu, the resort community at the sunny southern end of Kauai, Hawaii. Now in its 17th edition, this is one of the hilliest and most scenic road marathons in the United States, run entirely along the island's south shore coastline.

Both the marathon and half marathon start together at 6:00 a.m. on Poipu Road, in front of Poipu Shopping Village, and share the first 11 miles. Runners pass beneath the century-old Tunnel of Trees at dawn and wind through misty Omao. From there, the half marathon turns into Kukui'ula Resort for spectacular ocean views over its final miles, while the full marathon continues out to Lawai before a long climb to Kalaheo — the high point of the course, with sweeping ocean views — followed by a gradual descent back to the oceanfront finish in Poipu.

The full marathon climbs roughly 620 m (2,036 ft) in total, making it one of the toughest marathon courses in the country; it is not a Boston Marathon qualifier, with barely 1% of finishers hitting BQ times in recent years. The marathon has a generous 7-hour time limit. The 2026 race is already sold out. Results and live tracking: RaceResult.
